Hope you find this care sheet helpful.
Diamontina Chihuahuas - CARE SHEET - tailored specially for my puppies so their routines and feed are not upset when changing to their new homes.
Before collecting your puppy try to get the following:
I will be sending a full bag of food. (one bag of food will last over a month or more).
Food and water.
Puppies need to change food gradually so I will be sending a full bag of food that your puppy is used to having.
Feed your puppy 3 times a day. You will also need to leave some food and water all night for the first 2 weeks or so of settling in to their new homes. Puppies can get over excited at first, and may forget to feed. Since they are so tiny it is important they don't get low on food and drink.
Make sure the water bowl always has water in it.
Large puppy cage.
This is an ideal safe den for your Chihuahua when you go out. Dogs live down holes in the wild. The pens help them feel secure. Leave food and water and toys when you go out for a short while.
The cage is also ideal for your puppy - somewhere to put him or her for a short while, when you are too busy to watch them to protect them from eating things that shouldn't be eaten or to save your house
from accidents.
Your puppy will like to sleep in there too.
Immunization Jabs.
Your puppy has had all his first jabs and will need a booster at 1 year old and a booster
every year.
I will be sending the vaccination card.
Worming. (Panacur)
Your puppy has been fully wormed. You will need to worm once a month until 6 months then
every 3 months. - use Panacur.
Flea Treatment.
I use Tea Tree shampoos and coat sprays.
There is a wonderful product called 'Dynamite'. (A natural product available at wholesalers or online.) It contains Tea Tree and Lavender and Lemon Balm.
Grooming.
Surprisingly Long Coat Chihuahuas don't shed their coat as often as smooth coats. Just brush once a week or so to keep him/her clean and smelling fresh at the same time as using the coat spray (Dynamite).
Info on Chihuahuas & Training your Puppy.
Chihuahuas are affectionate ( the males are just as affectionate as the females if not more). They are intelligent and playful even as adults. They adore squeaky toys.
Easily trained. Just say shhh (like the Cesar Milan man) if you want your puppy to stop what he/she is doing. Then immediately praise when they stop.
Don't allow your puppy to chew on hands. Remove the hand and replace with a toy, and if necessary place on the floor. They will soon get the message. I highly recommend watching "The dog whisperer" before getting a puppy, to help with training right from the start.
Don't give your puppy your food. It will lead to him/her begging when you are having your
meals, and it is unhealthy for him/her. I am sending a full bag of dried biscuits which provide a complete balanced healthy diet for your puppy. Also
changing the feed can cause the runs.
They do not demand excessive exercise. They will run around a small garden as if it is a field, but they are also able to keep up with you on a jog if you
wish..
They love to play hide and seek and tig with other Chihuahuas.
All the best from
Denise.
Diamontina Chihuahuas - CARE SHEET - tailored specially for my puppies so their routines and feed are not upset when changing to their new homes.
Before collecting your puppy try to get the following:
Large Puppy Cage. ( I will also be sending a Pet Carrier which your puppy is used to
sleeping in - making it a home from home experience with less
stress)
Water Bowl.
Food Bowl.
Cat Litter Tray - save newspapers to use in this or put your puppy pads in it.
If you want to get more out of your puppy - A Book on puppies and another on
Chihuahuas.
Since puppies cannot change feed you would need to get Wag Premium dog food if you are having one of my puppies. (white bag). It is a Complete Dried food. Chihuahuas adore 'Wagg'. I like this brand as it is good quality with no additives. They like to take one of the variety pieces and run off with it, at the same time doing a playful spin. I find they never get bored of all the different pieces in it.
I will be sending a full bag of food. (one bag of food will last over a month or more).
Tins of 'Butchers' meat. Tripe mix is best. This brand has no additives. - only give a small amount
of this and not everyday. Please note this is specifically for my puppies only.
